William Joiner Pope, Sr. died Sunday, September 30, 2012 at Oktibbeha County hospital following a brief illness.

Visitation will be from 1 to 3, Wednesday, October 3, at Center Grove Baptist Church, with a full military graveside service at 3:00 at Center Grove Cemetery. The Reverend Joel Hudson will officiate.

Pope was born October 3, 1930 in Helena, Arkansas to Isham C. Pope and Ruby Joiner Pope. He is a graduate of Maben High School and Mississippi State University. He was married to the late Muhnyene Green originally from Sturgis.
Mr. Pope retired with 27 years of service in the U.S. Army He later operated Pope's Grocery in Center Grove. He was a member of Center Grove Baptist Church.

He is survived by his sister Martha Stillman, Germantown, TN; two sons, William Joiner Pope, Jr. ( Eleana) of Jackson and Michael Greene Pope; and daughter Stephanie Pope Kirk (Ken), both of Starkville. He is also survived by his grandson Ronnie Clardy (Samantha McCain) and their two sons Cain and Cayden, Eupora; step granddaughter Tara Cardinal, Aurora, Colorado, and five nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he is also pre deceased by a brother James C. Pope, Sr.
