Graveside services for Lula Mae (Brown) Brooks, 100, will be held on March 27th at 11 a.m. at the Blue River Cemetery. Mrs. Brooks passed away on Saturday, March 20th in Camp Verde.
Lula Mae was born May 1, 1903 in Camden, Arkansas. At the age of 12 her family moved to Logan, New Mexico. She married the love of her life, Jack Kirkby Brooks, in Dalhart, Texas on June 16, 1922. They moved their family to the Blue River in 1924. They also lived at Alpine for many years. She and her husband owned the Brooks Ranch on Blue River and later, along with their son James bought the 51 Ranch in the Bloody Basin area.
Mrs. Brooks loved flowers and was known for her beautiful roses grown at the 51 Ranch. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, knitting and especially her many years in the Blue River and State Cowbelles Organization. She worked hard alongside her husband, both with all the ranch work and the summer boys' camp that they held for years while on the Blue River.
Survivors include her son James and his wife Helen, two grandsons, Jack (his wife Martha and children Timalee, Travis and Trenton) and Jim (and his son Reid).
Her husband preceded her in death in 1984.
Burnham-Jewkes Mortuary of Springerville is in charge of the arrangements.
