He married Lillian Barrus of Groveland, Idaho on September 29, 1936, in the Logan Temple. They were married for 66 years and are the parents of six daughters and two sons. LeRoy's family made their home in Howell, Utah, until he was about three years old. At that time, they moved to Juniper, Idaho, where he resided until the time of his death, being a resident of the area longer than any other individual. As a farmer he raised wheat and beef cattle.
LeRoy was the first grandchild of James and Annie Nelson of College Ward, and the oldest living member of their family until his death.
He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, serving in various callings in the Juniper Ward, the Logan 1st Ward, and the Malta Wards. LeRoy and Lillian served an agriculture mission in the South Dakota Northern Indian Mission in 1972-73.
LeRoy was a faithful husband and father, known for being a man of integrity and charity. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, two brothers, and two grandchildren, Susan Larkin and LeRoy Eugene Exeter.
He is survived by his wife, Lillian, sister, Rita Black, brother, Merrell Nelson, 8 children, 50 grandchildren, and 85 great grandchildren. His children include Carla and Arthur Exeter of Pocatello, Noreen and Eugene Larkin and Louise and Kent Nielsen of Roy, Pauline and Weldon Sleight and George and Virginia Nelson of Logan, Starlene and Gary Draper of Wellsville, Bernice and Jerry Spendlove of Price, and Zeldon and Mary Lynne Nelson of Juniper.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, July 31, from 6-8 p.m. at the Allen-Hall Mortuary at 34 East Center Street in Logan. There will also be a viewing Friday, August 1, from 10:30-11:30 a.m. at the Logan 1st Ward Building at 89 South 200 West, with the funeral following at 12:00 noon. LeRoy�s son-in-law, Bishop Weldon Sleight, will officiate at the services.
