Civil War soldier - Private Co E 113th Pa, 12th CAV. Mustered in 31 Dec 1861 for a term of 3 years. Mustered out 20 Jul 1865. Sick in hospital in York, Pa at muster out. Bates vol 3, pg 1163
Obituary: Anton Wentzel, an inmate of the county hospital, died this morning, aged 73 years. The deceased was born in Germany and during the war was a member of Company E, 12th Pa Cavalry. The deceased had no friends in this country and his body was taken in charge by Chaplain Leonard and Commander Reed of the Grand Army. He will be buried in the soldiers' lot in Lancaster cemetery, Saturday afternoon. Lancaster Intelligencer, Thursday, August 2, 1888, pg 4
