Son of Jacob Agin and Phebe White Agin. Husband of Mariah Jane Pennington Agin. Father of Alice Phoebe Agin Eikleberry, James Nelson Agin, William Albert Agin, and Anne Mariah Agin Hibbetts.

The following information has been supplied by Stephen Altic: James Agin enlisted as a private in Company D of the 116th Ohio Volunteer Infantry August 12, 1862. At Winchester, Va. he was taken prisoner June 1863, later paroled in November. On Sept. 22, 1864 he was promoted to Corporal.

At Petersburg James was wounded in action April 1, 1865, just before the war ended.
