...Joseph Mark, the father of our subject, was born in Pennsylvania in 1800, and during his younger years cleared a farm of 175 acres in Fayette County, Ohio, and besides this was the owner of other land in that county. He deeded the greater portion of this to his children, and at the time of his death had a farm of 175 acres. He was a prominent man in his community, serving as Township Treasurer and County Commissioner, and belonged to the Methodist Episcopal Church, in which he officiated as Class-Leader and gave it a liberal support. He departed this life June 13, 1886. His wife, the mother of our subject, was in her girlhood Miss Naomi Bush, and was born in Virginia about 1800, and died in 1880. Her father, Leonard Bush was a native of Germany and upon emigrating to America settled on a farm in the Old Dominion, but later removed to Fayette County OH. He labored in true pioneer style in the opening up of a farm on the frontier, and after a long and industrious life he passed away at the age of eighty-five years. He was the father of fourteen children who presented the remarkable spectacle of all living to be about 80 years of age, and some of them over. To the parents of our subject (Anthony W Mark), there were born eight children: Cynthia A. a resident of Highland Co OH, Anthony W our subject; Mary, a resident of Fayette Co OH; Harriet, deceased; Henry, Huldah J, Louis and Rachel, these four all residents of Fayette Co OH. Henry and Louis served as members of the militia during Morgan's raid in Ohio. Louis was a Lieutenant in the three-months service operating mostly around Cynthiana, Ky.
