The Loyd family came from Lincoln County, Tennessee just after 1840. Charity Payne Loyd, widowed a few years earlier, led her family of nine children from Tennessee to Alabama. The youngest child, Elizabeth Merinda, was barely a year old, maybe two. Charity's oldest child was William Payne Loyd, named after her father. Her mother was also named Charity. At least two of her sons were potters, famous for pottery tombstones. Her tombstone was made by one of her sons - a Loyd original! (from Itawamba Connections)

Daughter of William Payne (1780 NC - 1817 Lincoln, TN)and Charity Jeffcoat Payne (1780 Maryland - 1859 Lincoln, TN)

Married James Loyd (24 May 1797 Lincoln, TN - 7 April 1841 Lincoln, TN) on February 13, 1820.

A mother reposes, underneath this sod,
A mother to memory dear, and dear to God. Rejoice, yet shed a sympathizing tear,
Our angel mother, lies buried here.
