William served as a 2nd Lieutenant on B-24H "Buttercup" (#42-52256), 737th Squadron, 454th Bomber Group (Heavy), U.S. Army Air Force based at Foggia, Italy during World War II.

He resided in California prior to the war.

William was "Killed In Action" when his B-24 was hit by enemy flak and crashed over Austria during the war. He was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.

He was originally interred overseas and was later repatriated here on June 9, 1950.
