LOGAN, UTAH: McCord Marshall 81 passed away in his Logan home July 10, 2003. He was born May 13, 1922 the son of John D. and Margaretta G. Marshall.

Following graduation from Logan High School and while attending Utah State Agricultural College when WWII broke out, he enlisted in the United States Air Corp. He graduated from Cadet training in Feb. 1943 receiving his pilot wings and commission as a 2nd Lieutenant. McCord was assigned to the 4th Interceptor Bombers, later serving in the Atlantic Command flying B I7's. He was reassigned to Gowen Field in Boise, Idaho as a B-24 pilot. Here he met his future wife Marvena Holmes who was a parachute packer. They were married in the base chapel Oct. 22, 1943. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple.

Leaving Gowen Field, McCord was stationed in North Africa and Italy under the command of the 15th Air Corp. In August 1944 while flying a "mission" over Blekhammer, Germany his bomber was severely damaged. He had to "abandon ship." As he left the ship he said, "Marvie said this chute will open! Here goes." And it did! McCord evaded the German patrol with the help of the "Partisan Underground" and returned to duty in Italy.

Finishing his tour of duty he returned to Logan Christmas Eve with numerous medals, including the Purple Heart. Following his military service Mac and Marvie settled in the "Island" where they have resided 60 years on the street of his birth.

McCord joined the Equitable Life Assurance Society of the United States (currently known as AXA Financial Services) as an agent in March 1958. In 1968 he received his professional degree Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU). He was appointed District Manager, a position he served in for 35 years, retiring after 45 years with the Equitable. McCord loved the outdoors. An avid hunter and fisherman, he spent many hours enjoying nature and her beauty with family members and friends.

He was a member of the High Priests Quorum, Crockett LDS Ward, formally serving as Cubmaster and recently as a Baptismal Officiator in the Logan LDS Temple.
