LIFE AND DEATH OF "GRANDMA DAVIS"
Eliza C. Epler was born in Springfield, Illinois Sept 21, 1852 to Joseph T.& Hannah H. Cresse Epler. Both of Cape May, Cape May Co. NJ.
When a small girl she with her parents removed to Mower county, Minn., where she helped her parents with the farm work and attended school.
On Nov 18, 1867 she was united in marriage with James Davis at Austin, Minn. They live at or near Austin until the spring of 1878 when they came to Otter Tail County, in immigrant wagons and homestead the place where she resided at the time of her death.
To this union ten children were born, David C. and Nelson Davis, Mrs. Sophia M. Clansman and Mrs. Cora E. Bixby all living here. Maty, Ervin, John, Clara, Curtis and Little May preceded her in death.
Besides rearing a large family of her own she, at the age of 15 became the stepmother of a large family, the youngest of which was less than 3 years old. Two of these children survive her, Lina Curtis of California and Joel Davis of Wyoming.
