A Nurse was Virgie's profession. Those who knew her well knew she always spoke her mind. I feel so blessed to have been as close as we were. She had a great sense of humor although serious was serious. To become a nurse had been her goal. Early on while very young she entered Nursing School only to have her father come & remove her for he did not think a woman should work. Well, she did later become a Nurse and work she did. She became a widow early in life, left to support 3 small children alone. She always encouraged me to become self-sufficient. She was right in so many things she tried to teach me.
She loved to fish but there had better be someone there to bait & take off the fish she catch. She once took me out in her boat at Toledo Bend - I was getting worried I may never see land again. She got the boat stuck in rear verse!!
She loved to grow flowers. I remember her rose garden & different flower gardens she had through the years.
She was not only my Grandmother but one of my best friends. I could tell her anything & she was never too judgmental. She always shot straight with me whether it was something I wanted to hear or not.
To those who knew her would never forget her and for those did not it was their loss.
