He was gathered into the presence of his lord and savior and reunited with his beloved wife of 63 years and his precious father and mother.
He was a member of Apostolic Christian Church, Tremont, where his funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday. Ministers of the church will officiate. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Davis Mortuary, Tremont, and from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be in Apostolic Christian Cemetery, Tremont.
Memorials may be made to Apostolic Christian Timber Ridge of Morton for their loving care of his sister, Betsy; Peoria Rescue Ministries; or Morton Fire department for their wonderful service on multiple occasions.
He was born July 12, 1920, in Tremont, son of August and Lena Menold Aberle. He married Vera V. Schweigert on Sept. 15, 1946, in Tremont.
Surviving are two sons, Michael (Su) Aberle, Fall Creek, Wis., and David (Malinda) Aberle, Bloomington; two daughters, Lynnette (Ron) Menold and Carol Aberle, both of Morton; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one brother, Ernie (Frieda) Aberle, Tremont; and one sister-in-law, Eunice (Harold) Rowell, Tremont.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Louise, Betsy and Ann Aberle; three brothers, Albert (Emma), and Emil (Wilma), all of Tremont; and Vernon (Helen), Lehi, Utah; and one granddaughter, Sarah (Josh) Aberle, Wisconsin.
Walter farmed in the Tremont area until 1963 when he moved to town and was employed at Tremont Co-op and Grain, retiring after 20 years.
He and Vera volunteered at OSF Hospital, Peoria; Rescue Mission, Peoria; Friendship House; Apostolic Christian World Relief; and Eureka and Morton Apostolic Christian nursing homes. He also served as janitor of his church and helped his children mow the church lawn. He was always lending a helping hand to anyone in need. He was a quiet, selfless and loving person who will be greatly missed as we celebrate and honor his life and service to Jesus.
Our family would like to express sincere thanks to the church ministers, church family and special friends for the wonderful help and support that they provided as we kept mom and dad in their home for 11 years. Thanks to Cece Swolley and the "after school" children's program for the cards and prayers. We appreciate the Davis Mortuary for their service and friendship to us. May God richly bless all of you for your love and kindness.
