Katherine M Ogle passed away peacefully early Saturday morning the 8th of Aug. 2009. "Kathy" was born Aug. 16, 1939 in Wytheville, to Joseph Thomas and Virginia (Virgie) Ruth (Richardson) Ryan. At an early age the family moved to Hillsville where her father was known for his ironwork expertise, which included creating the railing of the courthouse steps. She joined the US Air Force at the age of 18 with intentions of traveling and to see the world. After basic training in Lackland, TX she was stationed at Keesler AFB in Mississippi, where she met her first husband James Webb. They had two daughters and the Vietnam War took them to Hawaii where she spent the next ten years. In 1972 she had the opportunity to return home and reconnect with old friends. This led to Kathy being reunited with her childhood sweetheart Fred. Even after a fourteen-year separation the "spark" was still there. They married and moved the two daughters to Baltimore to combine the families, which totaled 10 children when all was said and done. The children count broke out with three boys and seven girls, with the girls winning, so of course having the last word in any argument. Kathy will always be remembered as an encourager and giver. She had great wit and an amazing sense of humor, which brought the families together. Even though she helped Fred with his work, which included many calls from his tenants, she felt that being mom and grandma were her favorite roles. She is survived by her husband of 37 yrs Fred Ogle; eight children, Jeana Arbuthnot (Jeff) of Wellington, CO, Robin Hall (Ken) of Lutherville, MD, Michael Ogle of Phoenix, MD, Betty Jaurique (Al)- San Jose, CA, Fred O. Ogle (Sherlita) San Jose, CA, Michelle Emory-(Alan) of Seaford, DE, Virgie Ogle (Roland) of Crownsville, MD, Tina Kossiakoff of York, PA; brothers, Samuel Ryan of Austinville, Joseph Thomas of Pulaski; ten grandchildren and a large extended family of in-laws, cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Early Fred Ogle Jr. and daughter, Mary Margaret Ogle. Memorial services were held at Connelly Funeral Home of Essex and Holly Hill Memorial Gardens on Aug. 11, 2009. An honor guard was there to receive Kathy and full military honors were bestowed with the flag being presented to Fred Ogle while two Air Force jets flew over wagging their wings twice to say a final farewell to one of their own. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
