Eric Melton Ables, 20, was traveling east on S.R. 335 when he lost control of his pickup about 7 a.m. near Tee Road, according to the Harrison County Sheriff's Dept.
Police said Ables had crossed the center line, veered back into his lane of traffic and crossed then center line again. The vehicle then went off the road, hit an earth embankment and rolled over, ejecting Ables, police said. The vehicle landed on him.
Harrison County Coroner Chad Cesar said Ables died at the scene of massive chest injuries.
Formerly of Louisville, Ables was a 2000 graduate of St. Xavier High School in Louisville. He worked for Uhl's Landscaping & Design in New Salisbury and was a member of the Shire Horse Society.
He was preceded in death by a grandfather, Ralph A. Melton Sr.
Survivors include his father, Leland Ables; his mother and stepfather, Kimberly Melton-Hall and Brent Hall; a sister, Tifany Ables; grandparents, Patricia Melton, Naomi Hoskins, and Melvin and Glenda Ables, and a great-grandmother, Stella Slayton.
The funeral was Wednesday, May 29, at Arch L. Heady & Son in Louisville with burial in Evergreen Cemetery in Louisville.
