A young Boise, Idaho girl was the victim of smoke inhalation early Saturday morning, Jan. 30, 1971, after a fire broke out in the second story bedroom of a Boise rural residence.

Shannon Marie McDonald, 12, of Collerell Drive, was dead on arrival at a Boise hospital. She apparently awoke and tried to escape but made it only to the window of the room before she succumbed to the smoke.

The fire apparently started from a malfunction caused by a short in the light fixture. Firemen noted a fuse serving that portion of the house had blown.

Flames broke through the roof of the house before the blaze was squelched. Two other children were in the bedroom where the fire apparently started, but were saved.

She was born March 11, 1958, at Boise.

Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Gibson Funeral Home. Interment will be at the Meridian Cemetery.

Surviving in Meridian is a grandparent, Vivian McDonald. Also surviving are her parents, Jody McDonald and L.J. McDonald, both of Boise.
