Note that this gives his name as "James" rather than "Joseph," but other details match well. Also note that there is no mention of his being a minister, despite the "Rev." title on this page.
FIELDS. – Grim death visited the residence of Bro. and Sister A. C. Peden, Haskell, Texas, Tuesday a.m., Sept. 19, 1893, and claimed as his victim, Capt. James Upton Fields. Bro. Fields was born in Georgia Apr. 14, 1818. He moved to Texas in 1835 where he served several years as a ranger, and later as a peace officer. In 1839 he married M. A. Lilley; both obeyed the gospel in 1853, during a series of services conducted by Bro. Henderson, since which time they have reflected the life of the Son of God – walking in his “footprints.” Bro. Fields leaves an aged a devoted wife, who for more than half a century assisted him along life’s toilsome way, thus proving herself a help-mate indeed. He also leaves two sons and three daughters. His sons W. W. and R. B. Fields, and one daughter, sister A.C. Peden, reside in Haskell, and two daughters, Sisters S. E. Anderson and J. P. Garrison, in the city of Sherman. Bro. Fields lived to see all of his children and grand children, who are old enough, buried with Christ in baptism – the result of a gold life and an upright walk. He was true to the old paths. To the bereaved ones let me say, cheer up, weep not for the dead in Christ for they have the promises. Your loss is his gain. Oh! reflect the life of him who died for you, so that you may heir with him that rest that remains to the people of God. Lord bless you! Affectionately,
