Man Killed by Truck

BIG SPRING, June 4-Erwin James Barnard, 23, was crushed to death here Thursday morning beneath the wheels of a truck. Barnard had resided here for the past 17 years. Rites were set for Friday. Survivors are his mother, Mrs. Inez Barnard, four brothers and two sisters.

The following is a poem written by his 12 year old niece, Lillie Mae Barnard, which appeared in the Big Spring Herald:

In Memory of Uncle Johnnie

My uncle was killed
by a truck on a hill
On a bright June day
he went away.
Oh, if only for a while
But he has gone to stay
And to think not a word
to us could he say.
Oh, how hard it was
for him to go that way.
I'm lonesome and blue
I miss your gay smile
and your teasing way
But most of all I miss you.
