History of Baxter Co. Wiburn Jefferson "Jeff" son of B.C. and Harriet, was born in South Carolina. He came to Baxter Co. shorty before his mother died. He was a small boy when the first steamboat came up the White River. Jeff worked for his father until he was 21. Then he began farming for himself. He worked on the track when the railroad was being built through Cotter. He worked on the bridge gang and repair crew after the trains began operating. The year 1914 was very dry. Jeff and Bessie took Audrey, Maxine and Leone and traveled with several other families by wagon to Vanoss, OK. They were on the road five weeks. They were Baptist and Jeff was superintendent of Sunday School in Vanoss. They returned to their farm in East Cotter and built a home. He farmed and sold eggs, milk and butter.
