Son of Hugh & Margaret Ashmore Henderson. His first wife was Nancy Hill 1811-1844, daughter of Rev. Isaac & Margaret Cunningham Hill.
In May of 1832 he enlisted in Captain Royal A. Nott's Company Of the 1st Regiment, 2nd Brigade of Illinois Mounted Volunteers in the service of the United States in the Black Hawk War. He was discharged in July of 1832. He received a Indian War Pension for his service.
His brother, James Eusebious Henderson was also in the same company.
He married 2nd Mrs. Mary Ann Wood Underwood 1812-1895 in Clark County, Illinois.
