He was born Jan. 7, 1928, in Greeley, Colo., and had lived here most of his life.
Mr. Gies was a bartender and also sold real estate (1970s) in Cheyenne.
He enjoyed playing pool, softball, baseball and chess.
He served two years in the U.S. Navy.
Mr. Gies is survived by his children, Roni Muhlenbruck of Loveland, Colo., Terry Gies of Cheyenne, and Nancy Pince of Cheyenne; a sister,
Lillian Holman of Tribune, Kan.; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son, Aaron Gies; parents, Henry and Anna (Flot) Gies; five brothers, Adam, Sam, Robert, John and Ben Gies; and five sisters, Ester Stanske, Hannah Speed, Pauline Dilka, Mary Margaret "Margo" Beck and Anna Margaret .
Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel of the Chimes with Billy Minder officiating. Interment of his urn will follow at Lakeview Cemetery.
Cremation has taken place at Cheyenne Memorial Gardens.
Military honors will be provided by the American Legion Honor Guard.
