Cecil Vernon Johnson

ABILENE -- Cecil Vernon Johnson, age 84, of Abilene, died Saturday, September 24, 2005 at Abilene Regional Medical Center in Abilene. Cecil was employed by Agnew Superette as a butcher. He also worked for eight years at the Abilene State School. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Abilene.

Cecil was born on January 25, 1921 to Homer and Margaret Campbell Johnson. He married Augustina Silba on July 29, 1983.

Cecil had a love of sports and liked the Texas Rangers and also liked to watch Bull Riding on TV. He was a fiddle player and played in a family band. He promoted dances around the area for such performers as Bob Wills. He also liked to play solitaire and dominos. He loved his grandchildren and went to watch all of their sporting events. He affectionately was known to them as Papaw and Peepaw.

Cecil is survived by his wife Augustina Johnson; sons Randy and wife Betsy Johnson of Carlsbad, Texas, Robert Rodela of College Station, Raymond Rodela, Jr., and wife Dawn of Haskell, Timmy and Wife Robin Rodela of Doss, and Patrick and wife, Dennie of Abilene; daughters, Linda Conlon of Hitchcock, Kay and husband, Phil Storm of San Angelo, Bonnie Rodela of Dallas, Patsy and husband, Abel Gonzales of Wichita Falls, Sally and husband Raymundo Sanchez of Abilene, and Juanita and husband Robert Guevara of Abilene; 33 grandchildren and 36 great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents and one daughter Deborah Marion.

Arrangements are being handled by Holden - McCauley Funeral Home of Haskell. Rosary will be from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., Sunday, September 25, 2005 at the funeral home. Funeral Mass will be at St. George Catholic Church at 2:00 p.m., Monday, September 26, 2005. Interment will be at Willow Cemetery in Haskell.
