From the
Horry Herald
June 7, 1917:
There is one more angel in Heaven and it is with a sad heart I attempt to write a few words in memory of my dear grandmother, who passed from this life May 15, 1917. She was 67 years old and was the daughter of Daniel Rowell and Annie Rowell, his wife, and was the wife of J. T. Shelley.
She is survived by her husband, three sons, three daughters, two sisters, and a host of relatives and friends to mourn their loss.
She was a great suffered for more then 10 weeks. Everything that physicians could do was done for her also the tender ministering of loving hands but to no avail. We hope she would be spared but her Father in Heaven knew best, so He took her to himself.
Grandmamma was a member of the Missionary Baptist Church. She always attended services when she could, and was also a faithful mother, a loving sister, true friend and neighbor, and we feel that our loss is her eternal gain.
Amid a large gathering of friends and relatives she was laid to rest in Pleasant View Church cemetery Wednesday, May 16th, there to sleep and rest from her sufferings.
We hope some sweet day we will be greeted by dear grand mamma in that glorious land where there is no sickness or sorrow and God shall wipe all tears away.
Oh, the tender love of grandmother,
What can with it compare;
Always so careful, ever hopeful;
Helping us our burdens bear.
Sad and lonely is her home,
Pale in death our loved one lies;
She has left her earthly mansion
For a home in the skies.
Wrote by her loving granddaughter,
Lutie Williamson, Tabor NC.
