Presbyterian minister and Moderator of the General Assembly in 1829. Received a D.D. from Princeton University in 1832, and was pastor of the church at Princeton, NJ, 1833-1847. Director of the Princeton Seminary 1833-48, and then returned to Hampden-Sydney College Church until his death.
