Funeral services for Arlon F. Drake, age 86 of Conroe formerly of Madison County, are scheduled for 11 a.m., Wednesday, March 12 at the Willowhole Chapel in North Zulch with burial to follow in Willowhole Cemetery. Rev. Ross Newton will officiate. Pallbearers will be Shawn Drake, Garry Brock, Jeremy Drake, Mike Day, Dusty Rhodes Jr., J.R. Petre and Billy Rains. Honorary pallbearers are William Rhodes, Justin Brock, Grant Drake, Chad Brock, Zachary Rhodes, Trey Rhodes, Steven Taylor, Christopher Taylor, Caleb Taylor and Cody Day. Visitation hours are 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. with the family present from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the Madisonville Funeral Home. Mr. Drake was born on November 17, 1921 in Madison County to Tom & Elizabeth (Mize) Drake and passed away on Sunday, March 9 in Temple. He lived in Madison County for 59 years. He worked for the Houston Fire Department for 20 years before retiring. Arlon's joy in life was farming and ranching. He loved plowing with mules. Mr. Drake served in the Us Army during WW II where received a Purple Heart in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in North Zulch. Arlon was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Alton Drake, J.T. Drake; sisters, Lois Ayers and Jewel Kimmey. Survivors include his son, John Drake & wife, Carol of Conroe; daughter, Dovie Postel of Midway; sister, Elizabeth Windsor of Cleburne; 7 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
