Marguerite attended the Garfield School in St. Joseph and a girls' finishing school, Kemper Hall, at Kenosha, Wisconsin (Kemper Hall officially closed in 1975).

Marguerite met her first husband, James S. Boyd, while vacationing in Atlantic City, NJ. While married they lived in Philadelphia, PA; NYC; and Atlantic City. After a divorce, Marguerite and her children moved to St. Joseph and in 1925 she married Charles A. Bailey. Her last place of residence was 2521 Francis Street, St. Joseph.

Marguerite traveled considerably abroad and was active in club work until illness prevented such. She was a member of the Runcie Club (a women's educational organziation), the Fortnightly Musical Club and the Southern Society. She seldom missed attending symphony concerts and any formal music recitals. She was a true devotee of music and poetry and her library was one of the finest in St. Joseph. She had many rare first editions of simple volumes and large sets, besides many de luxe editions. While her books cover a wide range, her collection of poetry is probably the most complete of all.

Jane Maud Walker #67396605 was the English nanny for Marguerite's three children. Maud later in life went to work for Marguerite's son James Boyd.
