He married Christina Pratt on December 27, 1857 in Gratiot County, Michigan. David and Christina started their family in Newark Township, Gratiot County, Michigan where David farmed while Christina raised the children. However, by July of 1869 David had moved the family to New Haven Township, Gratiot County, Michigan where he continued to farm. This is where the family remained thru at least 1880.
In 1900, David and Christina lived on a farm which they owned free and clear in Arcada Township, Gratiot County, Michigan. Their youngest child, Nelson was the only one still living with them at the time. David still continued to farm with the help of his son, Nelson.
He died on March 20, 1903 in Arcada Township, Gratiot County, Michigan. He is interred at Beechler Cemetery in Newark, Gratiot, Michigan. His and Christina's tombstone is a singular pillar with HUSTED at the bottom, which reads "David Husted 1830 - 1903" then separated by a line " Christen his wife 1842" no death date is marked for Christen.
