The Bolivar Commerical, Tuesday, August 11, 2009:

Laura Elizabeth Cochran Erwin, 87, of Southaven, formerly of Merigold, died Monday, August 10, 2009, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-DeSoto in Southaven, MS. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Ray Funeral Home in Cleveland. Burial will follow at Merigold Cemetery in Merigold.

Mrs. Erwin was born on August 21, 1921, to W. R. Cochran and Louise Leech Cochran. She was a graduate of Merigold High School. She married Maj. John T. Erwin Sr. on February 3, 1941. She was a member of the Whitehaven Baptist Church in Memphis, TN.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Maj. John T. Erwin, Sr.; four brothers, Billy Cochran, Charles Cochran, Perkins Cochran and Bob Cochran; and two sisters, Mrs. Ardis Daves and Mrs. Alice Caviness.

Survivors include her son, John T. Erwin Jr., (Peggy) of Horn Lake; daughter, Beverly J. Hollingsworth (William) of Memphis, Tenn. ; sisters, Mrs. Martha Sayle of Memphis, Tenn., Mrs. Mary Jane Cochran of Memphis, Tenn., Mrs. Barbara Cochran of Merigold, Mrs. Mary Cochran of Nesbit; seven grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
