She was born in Charlottesville, daughter of the late John Overton and Daisy Smith Shackelford. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd W. Giles.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women's Circle 5.
Survivors include several cousins and her dear friend Jeanne Flippo Bailes.
A graveside service was conducted Thursday, August 21, 2008, at Monticello Memory Gardens with the Dr. Harry Kennon officiating, assisted by Chaplain David Flack.
