Daniel Piper Witter was born April 25, 1834 at Amberson's Valley, Franklin county, Pennsylvania, and died at his home in Havensville, Kansas, April 7, 1911, aged 76 years, 11 months and 12 days. He was united in marriage to Mary Jane Campbell at Fort Littleton, Pennsylvania, July 17, 1859. Born to this union were seven children, two of whom, Kinzie and Belle, preceded him to the better land. Those left to mourn his departure are his faithful wife, two daughters, Mrs. Geo. T. Codding and Mrs. Frank Baker, three sons, John, Roy, and Lee.
He served during the civil war in Co. G. 16th Cavalry, U. W. Vol. At the close of the war he removed his family to Louisville, Kansas and has since resided in Pottawatomie county. He was converted and joined the church early in life and led an exemplary Christian life up to the time of his death.
