Moments after releasing their bombs over the intended target area of Kobe, on the night of March 17, 1945, the plane banked to the left to return to the base at the Marianas Islands when it took a direct hit from an anti aircraft artillery burst and went down near the shoreline of Akashi Villiage, Japan.
All eleven airmen aboard were killed:

1st Lt. Boutwell H Foster Jr, Flight Engineer
