UNITED STATES NAVY - WORLD WAR II
Linwood (Beck) Thomas Jr., age 83, of Salem departed this life August 18th after a long illness.
Born in Salem he was the son of the late Linwood Sr. and Agnes Pew Thomas. Mr. Thomas retired from Chamberlain's Furniture after 40 years of service.
He was a great husband, father and friend to all who knew him.
He loved to fish and was a member of VFW Post 253 Tilbury, Eagles Lodge #1966 and the Salem Boat Club. Mr. Thomas built his own boat in 1970 and cruised the Chesapeake for 31 years with his first mate, Betty Lou.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 61 years, the former Betty Lou Van Note; his children, Charles Linwood Thomas & wife Joanna, Anna May Thomas Welch & late husband, Isaac Mickey Welch Sr, Joanne Hyson & husband Donald and Frank Thomas & wife Angela; nine grandchildren, Tammi, Aaron, Jodi, Joel, Jason, Jennifer, Lori and Nathaniel Linwood; and 15 great grandchildren.
Services will be held at WOODSIDE FUNERAL HOME, 34 Oak Street, Salem. Burial will be in Salem County Veteran's Cemetery, Pilesgrove.
