Colonel C. F. Coffee, prominent western Nebraska banker, uncle of Harry B. Coffee, died Monday at his home in Chadron after a long illness. Born in Missouri, Coffee became a Texas cowboy, later moving north to Cheyenne and Harrison, Neb. where he started his Hat Creek ranch, now composed of ten sections of land. In 1901 he bought control of the First National Bank of Chadron and since that time had controlled banks at Harrison, Gordon and Hay Springs. He purchased control of the First National bank of Douglas and retained control until that institution was consolidated with the Commercial bank.
His two sons, C. F. Jr., and John, are bankers, the former at Chadron and the latter at Harrison.
