CALHOUN, Robert Samuel, (Bob), 89, of Manning, SC, formerly of Covington and Radford, VA, died Thursday, December 27, 2001, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Belspring, VA on October 12, 1912, to the late James Carson & Bessie Perfater Calhoun. He was in the V.P.I. Class of 1934, graduating with an Industrial Engineering degree. He worked for Mason-Hanger Construction Company, 1940-1946, building ammunition plants around the United States. He then operated Covington Lumber Company until he retired in 1963. In addition to his parents, his siblings, Elsie, Dale, and Clarence preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Elizabeth Hilton Calhoun, Manning, SC; daughters, Mary Ellen C. Peters (Joe), Manning, SC, and JoAnn C. Nygard (Lee), Glen Allen, VA; five grandchildren, Michael R. Peters (Kristen), South Riding, VA, Gary Lee Peters, Vienna, VA, Kathryn P. Nelson (Steve), Haymarket, VA, Heidi N. Richardson (Geoff), Chesterfield, VA, and Chris R. Nygard (Jen), San Diego, CA. A memorial service will be held in Radford, VA at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Tuomey Hospice of Sumter, 31 E. Calhoun St., Sumter, SC 29150.
