Charles A. Campbell, 95, of Amarillo died Monday, July 25, 2011.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Paramount Baptist Church, EXP Worship Center, with the Rev. David Preston officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Griggs-Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors, 5400 S. Bell.

Charles Campbell was born in Thomas, Okla., to Ruth and Charles Campbell, and has been a resident of Amarillo 59 years. He graduated from Cowden High School in Okla., earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Southwestern Oklahoma State University and a Master of Education degree from West Texas A&M University in Canyon.

Mr. Campbell was married to Helen Hodge of Alfalfa, Okla., on July 15, 1938. To this union was born their daughter Charlene, who married Joe Day.

In 1937, he began a longtime teaching career of 41 years, which was interrupted for a time by service in the U.S. Navy. He served as math and science teacher and principal at Hext Consolidated School in Beckham County, Okla. He served four years as principal of high school and math science teacher in Erick, Okla. and served in the same capacity in Anadarko High School of Oklahoma. He was superintendent of schools at Colony, Okla., for four years and was principal of Sudan High School in Sudan. He came to Amarillo in 1952 and taught physics, math, and biology at Amarillo High School. During that time, he worked as coordinator of math and science and was also head of the science department at Amarillo High School. He retired in June 1978, but stayed on as a substitute teacher in math and science for four years after retirement.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen, in 2004.

Survivors include a daughter, Charlene; two grandsons, Rick Day and wife Teai of Amarillo and Randy Day and wife Renee of Dallas; six great-grandchildren, Aaron Day and wife Erin, Asher Day and wife Ruth, Anna Day, Ariel Day, Grace Day and Nathan Day; a great-great-grandson, Holden Campbell Day; two sisters, Johnnie Beth King of Amarillo and Juanita Bryan of Virginia Beach, Va.; two nieces; and six nephews.

The family suggest memorials be to Paramount Baptist Church Scholarship Fund, 3801 Western St., Amarillo, TX 79109.
