Roger L. Helms, Sr. Galesburg Chapel
63, of 48 Garfield Ave., Galesburg died at 5:00 PM Tuesday August 18, 2009 at his home.
He was born June 28, 1946 in Macomb, IL to Donald L. and Alta C. Wilson Helms. He married Mary L. Gilmore October 8, 1966 in Industry, IL. She survives.
Surviving is a daughter, Virginia L. (and Rob) Wood of Galesburg, a brother, Bernard Helms of Bushnell, IL, 3 ,Verna Mae (and George) Rogers of Minerva, OH, Delores Sallee of Macomb, IL and Patricia A. McCall of Galesburg and a grandson Josh Gilbert. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Roger Helms, Jr. January 10, 1999 and a brother.
Roger worked in the Park Department for the city of Galesburg at Bunker Links Golf Course for 32 ½ years and retired in 2001. He loved NASCAR and golf and used to play guitar.
Funeral service will be 11:00 AM Friday August 21, 2009 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Rev. Don Reynolds officiating. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service at the chapel. Burial will be in Hamlet Cemetery, near Aledo, IL. Memorials may be made to the family. Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
