Mrs. Winnie J. Lucas, 99, of Richards, died Tuesday, Jan. 22, at Grimes-St. Joseph Health Center in Navasota. She was born August 1, 1902 in Freestone County and had been a resident of Grimes County for 79 years. A devout Christian, she was a long time member of Shiro Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband William F. Lucas in 1974. Survivors include a son, W.I. Lucas and wife Joyce of Huntsville; grandchildren, Eraina Lothringer and husband Skeeter of Houston, Rhonda Parks and husband Bradley of Tomball, Karen Hale and husband John of Clear Lake and their 3 children, and Billy Wayne Massey and wife Debbie and their 3 children; great grandchildren, Rona Lothringer Presley, Ty Lothringer, Jamie Vernon Parks, Michael Lucas Parks and Jason Bradley Parks; great-great grandchildren, Ashliegh Hurd, Jessica Jenkins, Carlos Guzman, Lauren Lothringer and J.J. Parks along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday evening from 5pm to 7pm. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday at the Shiro Baptist Church in Shiro with the Rev. Jack Jeter officiating. Interment will follow in the Independence Cemetery.
