oldest son of Oswin Teagarden and Mehitable Baker. According to family tradition, Charles had medical problems as a young man and during the Civil War his father, who was a druggist took his place in the military (CSA).
Charles would become a photographer after the war and traveled throughout the Texas area. He was married to Florence Johnson. They had one child, a girl Rose Alba. Florence died suddenly in 1872 just two years after their marriage. Charles never remarried. The child was raised by Chareles' sister

Charles did serve in the CSA. Family records indicate that his father took his place at some time during the war.
Thanks to Kenny Dee for the CSA information
