RICE, George L. – George L. Rice was born in Vermillion Co., Ill. Dec. 13, 1842,died Feb. 14, 1909. His parents moved to Iowa when he was about three years old and shortly after his father died. About a year after the Civil war was in progress he joined Co. A, 7th Iowa cavalry as a private and was honorably discharged three years later with rank of corporal. About the year 1867 he was accepted into the fraternity of the F. and A. Masons, faithfully extending its privileges and patronizing its assemblies as best his circumstances would permit, until death. He was married May 19, 1872 to Martha A. Hallingsworth from which union there has been six children, five of whom are living: S.E., C.L. and
Bessie Rice and Mrs. Inez Rice Miller and their widowed mother being present at the funeral. Mark D. Rice being in Oakland, California, was too far away to reach here in time for the services. The deceased was buried in the city
