PRIEST FOR THE ARCHDIOCESE OF DETROIT FOR 64 YEARS
Father Kreft, age 92, died at Shore Pointe Village, in St. Clair Shores, Michigan. He was born in Detroit, Michigan, to Anthony and Pauline Kreft, one of seven children.
Education: Father Kreft earned a degree in Philosophy from SS Cyril & Methodius Seminary in Orchard Lake, Michigan, and a degree in Theology from Mt. St. Mary Seminary in Norwood, Ohio.
Occupation: He was a Catholic Priest for the Archdiocese of Detroit since ordination to the priesthood on February 24, 1945, in Detroit. He received Senior Priest Status February 20, 1987.

His assigned parishes included Immaculate Conception Parish (Detroit) from March 20, 1945 - June 14, 1950, St. Lawrence Parish (Detroit) from June 15, 1950 - June 23, 1955, St. Mary Parish (Wayne, MI) from June 24, 1955 - March 8, 1960, St. Peter Parish (Mt. Clemens) from March 9, 1960 - Dec. 13, 1961, St. Alexis Mission (Willow Run) from Dec. 14, 1961 - Jan. 13, 1965, and Pastor of Sacred Heart of the Hills Parish (Auburn Hills) from Jan. 13, 1965 - Feb. 19, 1987.

Father Kreft loved fishing and golf, and enjoyed spending time at his get-away home in the Thumb, especially after retirement. He liked to travel, and enjoyed going to Florida near Englewood. He had been known to drive from the Detroit area to Alaska by himself, staying there for a month - he was very independent.

Family and friends will remember Father as very gentle and kind; always good to everyone he met, always there for everyone's crisis, and he had lots of friends. Father officiated at the funerals of his parents and his siblings.

He is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.

Father was predeceased by his parents, and by his sisters, Cecilia, Margaret, Virginia, and his brothers, Joe, George, and Anthony.

Visitation: Wednesday, August 19, 2009, from 2-8 PM at A. J. Desmond & Sons Funeral Home, 2600 Crooks Road, Troy, MI 48084, with an evening Prayer Service at 7 PM.

Funeral Mass: Thursday, August 20, 2009 - 11:00 AM at Sacred Heart of the Hills Church, 3400 S. Adams Road, Auburn Hills, with Archbishop Allen H. Vigneron officiating. Visitation at church begins Thursday at 10:00 AM.
