Born and baptized Jean-Baptiste Roy, on 14 Jun 1836, in St-Constant, Québec. Son of Médard Roy and Zoé Campbell. This is confirmed by Quebec, Vital and Church Records (Drouin Collection), 1621-1967; Parish registry in St-Constant, LaPrairie, Québec.

He married Marguerite Vacher in Pain Court, Kent, Ontario on 25 Sept 1855. Confirmed by the Parish registy in Pain Court, Dover South, Kent, Ontario. Ontario, Canada, Catholic Church Records (Drouin Collection), 1747-1967

He anglicized his name from Roy to King when he immigrated to the United States.

Death certificate indicates he died in Brownstone (signed by the doctor in Flat Rock). The region now known as Brownstown was, like surrounding areas in Michigan, once a part of the French Province Quebec. The area eventually fell into hands of the British and finally came under American rule in the 18th century.
