"Smith Creek" John Stockton was a son of Thomas and Mary Stockton, Sr. In about 1781 John married Margaret "Peggy" ____?____. "Smith Creek" John and Peggy raised a large family in Stockton's Valley, present Clinton County, Kentucky. The exact dates of when "Smith Creek" John Stockton was born, married and died are not known, however, it appears that he was born about 1763, was married about 1781 and died about 1803.

"Smith Creek" John Stockton lived just three properties away from his father, Thomas Stockton, Sr., who was the first settler in what is now Clinton County, Kentucky. Stockton's Valley is named after Thomas Stockton, Sr.
