Bettie Jane Ulyshen passed away peacefully Saturday, Aug. 15, 2009, with her family near.
Funeral: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church of Fort Worth, 1000 Penn St., Fort Worth. Interment: Greenwood Memorial Park. Visitation: 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Greenwood Funeral Home.
Bettie Jane, "Bet" to her friends, was born Dec. 31, 1926, in Fort Worth to Dr. Carl and Mary Elizabeth Hickman. She graduated from Paschal High School, attended the University of Texas at Austin and graduated from TCU.
After college she married Dr. Robert Bruce Wilchar and settled in Fort Worth where she raised her children, Pam and Bruce.
Bet was an active volunteer in various aspects of Fort Worth, including the Junior League, Woman's Club, TCU Women Exes and Kappa Alpha Theta Alumni. Most of all, she was a dear, supportive friend to all who knew her.
In 1981, she married Michael Ulyshen and moved to Kaneohe, Hawaii, where they spent many wonderful years in beautiful surroundings at their home in Hawaii.
Many years later, Mike and Bet returned to Fort Worth where they were excited to be closer to family and friends.
Bet had an active mind and always kept abreast of events going on around her. Family, friends and holidays were what she enjoyed most. She loved entertaining and was an inspiration to all. She will be forever loved by so many.
Bet was preceded in death by her sisters, Mary Lillian Street and Carlene Morgan.
Survivors: Husband, Michael Ulyshen; daughter, Pam Ball and husband, Mike; son, Bruce Wilchar; grandchildren, Ashley Ball, Grant Ball, Will Wilchar, Hannah Wilchar; stepchildren, Tom Ulyshen, Jim Ulyshen, Jodie Harney and Janie Ulyshen; and nine grandchildren.
