Thomas Clemens was born on February 27, 1791, in Lincoln County, Kentucky, his father, Jeremiah, was 27 and his mother, Jane, was 26. HIs siblings are James Clemens 1791-1878, Isabella Clemens 1795-1862, Elizabeth Clemens 1799-1878. He married Ruth Cook in 1809 in Lincoln, Kentucky. They had two children, Elizabeth Clemens 1805-1838 and Thomas B Clemens Jr 1810-1850, during their marriage. He died on July 30, 1826, in Missouri at the age of 35, and was buried in in Missouri and moved to the Bellevue Cemetery, Danville, Kentucky in October 1865.
