Andrew Franklin McClure
Andrew Franklin McClure was born near Greenfield, Ohio March 28, 1841. He was orphaned at a very early age and was then shifted about among older relatives until he was about eighteen years old. He then made his first trip west and was engaged in various occupations incident to pioneering a new country. At one time, he had a trading post in partnership with a French photographer.
About 1870, he returned east where he was later married to Miss Lucy Simpson. To this union, one son Frank, was born. At this time they were living in what is now known as King City, Missouri.
After the death of his wife which occurred at that place, he spent several years in different frontier towns of the west, but returning to Ohio in the late seventies, he married again , this time to Elisabeth Turner. He came west again soon after their marriage, crossing the country in the then popular covered wagon. Arriving in Nebraska, they spent some time looking about for a location. They halted for a time near Seward, Nebraska, where their son Raymond was born. Having visited Hebron in 1872 and again in 1882, they decided on this place as their home, arriving finally in the spring of 1884, where he engaged in farming and breaking prairie for the Burlington railroad then building lines through many parts of the state.
The years following were spent mostly at Hebron. Soon after the death of his wife, which occurred in February 1927, he went to Pasadena, California, where he lived at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Cora Clymer. Here in February of 1928, he suffered a stroke.
Previous to this stroke he had been a man of strong will power, allowing himself to form no evil habits, not even using tobacco as did most of the men of pioneer days. He was one who believed that a man's word should be as good as his bond.
Surviving him are his four children, Raymond McClure of Hebron; Mrs. Grace Helfer Excel, Can.; Mrs. Cora Clymer, Pasadena, Calif. and Burch McClure. also of Hebron.
The funeral was held from the home at Hebron, Saturday, October 13, 1928 at 3 o'clock, where a brief service was conducted by Rev. E. E. Carter.
