He was born November 11, 1914 in Shepardstown, West Virginia son of the late Charles & Sarah Catherine Hawn Carter.
He was retired from Bethlehem Steel and owner of a store in Fishing Creek and also was a farmer. Ed enjoyed motorcycling, hunting and flying his small single engine airplane. The last two years Ed enjoyed a new found friendship with his Saviour, Jesus Christ. He attended Word of Life Chapel in Halifax.
He is survived by five daughters, Frances Espenshade of Dauphin, Phyllis Tibbens of Linglestown, Naomi Felty of Chambers Hill, Betty Lou Russell of DE and Edwina Fontaine of Chambersburg; 18 grandchildren; 38 great grandchildren; 10 great great grandchildren; a friend Charlie Bechtel of Halifax.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Ray and David and a granddaughter, Debbie Piro.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday August 22, 2009 at 10:00 AM at the Dauphin Cemetery.
