Martin Meilander, who lived at 228 1/2 Seventh St. in Elyria, served in the police patrol division. Prior to joining the department, he had been a security guard at Nordson Corp.

Meilander was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Oberlin, the Fraternal Order of Police and the Elyria Police Patrolmen's Association. He served in the Air Force from 1976-79, was a 1975 graduate
of Firelands High School and had attended Lorain County Community College.

SURVIVING are a daughter Jamie Lynn of Amherst; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Meilander of rural Wakeman; two brothers, Rick of Oberlin
and Robert of Wakeman; a sister, Mrs. William (Debra) Luckett of Weatherford, Texas; and his grandmother Esther Brunger of Wakeman. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Cowling Funeral Home, Oberlin. Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church, Oberlin, with Rev. Charles Aufdenkampe fficiating.
Burial will be in Camden Cemetery. Memorial contributions if desired may be made to Grace Church or the Elyria Police Department.
