Amel Miller

Amel Wayne Miller, 84, of Mount Pleasant, died Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2003, at his home.

Born Aug. 29, 1918, in Danville, he was the son of Walter and Bertha Hall Miller. On Aug. 2, 1941, he married Ethel Smith in Burlington.

Mr. Miller worked for the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant following military duty and also began a lifelong career of farming. In 1952, he moved to Farmington, where he farmed.

He was a graduate of Danville High School. He was a World War II Army Air Corps veteran, attaining the rank of tec sergeant. He moved to Mount Pleasant in 2000. He was a member of the Community of Christ Church, where he served as a priest.

Survivors include his wife of Park Place Care Center in Mount Pleasant; two daughters, Shirley Spray of West Union and Theresa Robertson of Farmington; two sons, Amel Miller of Owasso, Okla., and Raymond Miller of Keokuk; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ruth Carrey of Danville and Esther Bowles of Denver.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.

Mr. Miller has donated his body to the Deeded Body Program at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City for medical science research.

The Miller family will hold a private time of remembrance. Burial will be at a later date in Keokuk National Cemetery.
