"Double Funeral Cortege Winds Sad Way to Depot"

The funeral of Messrs Samuel Sherman and son, Charles Sherman, the unfortunate victims of the auto accident on last Friday evening when the car driven by W. S. Hanger struck a tree, resulting in the instant death of both father and son, was held this morning at 9 o'clock from the residence of Mr. Charles Sherman, 415 West Charles street, and was very largely attended. Mrs. Samuel Sherman, widow of the elder Mr. Sherman, arrived in the city late Saturday evening from North Bend, where she was visiting with relatives at the time of the accident, word having reached her too late to arrive on an earlier train, thus delaying funeral arrangements until her arrival.

Samuel Walker Sherman was born near Berlin, Ohio, June 10th, 1850, and died on the 12th day of January, 1917, in this city. He leaves a widow, four sons, one daughter and a sister to mourn her loss. The sons are: Elmer, of St. Joseph, Mo.; Harry, of Cedar Bluggs, Neb.; Clifford, of Minneapolis, Minn., and Linley of this city. The daughter is Mrs. Wheeler, of Cedar Bluffs, and the sister, Mrs. F. D. Hutchinson, of Lincoln. All were present to attend the funeral.

Charles Ferris Sherman (the son) was born near Cerro Gordo, Ill., on October 3, 1880, and died at Grand Island, Nebraska, January 12, 1917. He leaves a widow and one daughter, Margaret, 8 years old, and one son, Charles, 8 months old.

The funeral took place at the home on West Charles street this morning at 10 o'clock. The services were conducted by Rev. Thompson, of the First Methodist church, and the Eagles, who attended in a body after which the bodies were shipped to North Bend, Neb., where interment will take place this afternoon. The pallbearers, who consisted of member of the Eagles, accompanied the remains to North Bend.
