At the age of 13 he worked at the Baker Hotel as a chef, later the Holiday Inn Restaurant in Mineral Wells and then at the Western Hills Hotel in Fort Worth. He was also the food service supervisor at Texas Women's University and the mess hall supervisor at Southern Airways from 1963-1973. Oened and operated the Star Cafe in Mineral Wells for many years. In 1989, he went to work at Baum-Carlock-Bumgardner Funeral Home until retiring in 2000. Member of the Knights of Pythias
