AKERS, Henry Arthur, 86, of Narrows, passed away Thursday, May 13, 2004 in the Riverview Nursing Home in Rich Creek. He was born in Dublin, VA on February 12, 1918 and was the son of the late Lacy & Nina Edwards Akers. He was a member of the Kathleen Memorial United Methodist Church on Wolf Creek and was a retired iron worker, having been a member of the Iron Workers Local #697. He is survived by his wife, Hazel Wheeler Akers of Narrows; three sons & their wives, Larry & Elizabeth Akers of Pembroke, John Mark & Donna Akers, and Stanley & Elaine Akers, both of Narrows; four daughters & husbands, Linda Whisman & husband, James of Roanoke, Sarah Hyatt of Narrows, Rebecca Epling & husband, Jeff of Rich Creek, and Wanda Donnelly of California; ten grandchildren, Laura Richardson, Thomas Akers, Chelsey Akers, Chastin Akers, Ethan Akers, Daniel Frazier, Kristen Frazier, Erin Hyatt, Paula Hyatt, and Madison Epling; three great-grandchildren, Zac Richardson, Mollie Richardson, and Kellie Richardson; and three sisters, Mary Riddle of Hopewell, VA, Rowena Comer of Georgia, and Josephine Shrader of California. Funeral services will be held Sunday, May 16, 2004 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Riffe's Funeral Service, Narrows, with the Rev. J.D. Clark officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery on Wolf Creek near Narrows. The family will receive friends at Riffe's in Narrows, Saturday from 6 to 9 p.m.
